What is the focus of your giving program?
The Home Depot Foundation is dedicated to building homes for working families that are healthy to live in and affordable to own.

While focused on building affordable homes, The Home Depot Foundation is committed to improving the overall health of our communities. Taking a long-term, comprehensive approach to building healthy, stable communities where families can thrive, the Foundation invests in the planting and restoration of trees along streets, in parks and in schoolyards; the building and refurbishment of community play spaces; and the revitalization of school facilities.

To what organizations does The Home Depot Foundation contribute?
The Home Depot Foundation invests millions of dollars each year in 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose missions align with the Foundation's interests in supporting the production and preservation of affordable, efficient and healthy housing.

Does The Home Depot Foundation accept unsolicited grant requests?
To better support its mission, The Home Depot Foundation awards most of its grants by directly soliciting proposals from high-performing nonprofit organizations with the demonstrated ability to create strong partnerships, impact multiple communities and leverage grant resources. In order to identify potential future nonprofit partners or respond to unique community revitalization opportunities, a limited amount of unsolicited grant funding is set aside to be awarded through a competitive process.

How large is your philanthropic program through The Home Depot Foundation?
In 2007, The Home Depot Foundation committed to investing $400 million in grants over the next 10 years, which will result in the development of 100,000 affordable, healthy homes for working families and the planting and preservation of more than three million community trees in urban areas.

How can my organization apply for an Affordable Housing Built Responsibly grant?
It's easy to apply. Complete the online Eligibility Quiz to determine if your organization’s programs align with the Foundation’s funding priorities. If you pass the Eligibility Test, you will gain access to the next step in the application process – the Letter of Inquiry (LOI) questionnaire. Complete and submit the LOI online by the appropriate deadline. If your LOI is approved, you will be instructed to submit a full project proposal online. Only full project descriptions that are completed and submitted by the deadline will be reviewed.

What is the deadline for submitting applications?
The Home Depot Foundation makes Affordable Housing Built Responsibly grant decisions twice a year. Grants will be considered according to the following schedule:

How many times may I apply for a grant?
The Foundation will consider only one proposal from the same organization in a calendar year.

Are grantees required to submit final reports?
Yes, The Home Depot Foundation requires all grantees to submit a final project report. In certain situations, grantees may also be required to submit progress reports in addition to the final project report.

What is The Home Depot Foundation’s Awards of Excellence Program?
The Home Depot Foundation created the Awards of Excellence program in order to identify, recognize and showcase theoutstanding and innovative work of nonprofit organizations across the country in the areas of affordable housing built responsibly and public-private partnerships using sustainable development strategically to create healthier more vibrant communities.

How do I apply for the Awards of Excellence program?
The submission and review process for the Awards of Excellence is a three step process. Applicants must first complete a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) and submit online by the appropriate deadline. Within approximately 2-3 weeks of the LOI deadline, the Foundation will invite organizations to complete a full project description. Applicants asked to complete full project descriptions must submit proposals online to the Foundation by the appropriate deadline.

What password should be used on the Login Page?
First time applicants must create a password, which will be used each time they login to the application.

After saving my application, how do I return to review, revise and/or submit the application?
When the applicant logs in for the first time an account is automatically created using the email and password information used. The applicant will receive an automated confirmation email providing them with a link to use to return to the application and their 'My Account' page. You must use this link to return to your application and the account you created. Add this link to your Favorites for easy access.

Why can't I return to the original link on my organizations Web site or the Foundation’s Web site to access the application?
Accessing the original link will start a new application and a new account.

I have entered my email address and password and still cannot access my application or "My Account" page.
Please check your entries to make sure that you have not misspelled anything and make sure that you are using the same email address you used to initially login and create your account.

How can I save my in progress application and return to work on it?
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose the "Save & Finish Later" button. Selecting the "Review & Submit" button will submit your application.

I have logged into my account and don't see my application listed.
If you did not press the "Save & Finish Later" or "Review & Submit" button upon leaving the application, your work was not saved and you will need to start a new application.

I logged in as a returning applicant and it takes me to a blank application.
After opening an application, if you do not choose the "Save & Finish Later" button at the bottom of the page, your work was not saved and you will need to start a new application.

I forgot my password and clicked on the "forgot password" link and I get an error message.
Please check to see if the email address you are using is different from the one you used to initially login and create an account, or if the address is either misspelled or a different address.

Why do I see several copies of the application on "My Account" page?
Each time you open the application using the original link from the Web site and select the "Save & Finish Later" button you create a new application.
