Seeing the difficult challenges facing veterans, The Home Depot Foundation has made a commitment to invest $30 million over three years to help address veterans' housing issues. In addition to making grants, we also support non-profit organizations serving veterans by completing volunteer projects that involve repairing or modifying homes to make them more affordable and comfortable for veterans and their families. We are also proud to volunteer side-by-side with veterans who are continuing to serve others even after their military service has ended.
The Foundation works with nonprofit organizations across the country to renovate, repair and modify homes for veterans and their families and to engage volunteers. We are proud to count Fisher House Foundation and Volunteers of America among our current National Partners.
Our corps of volunteer associates, Team Depot, partners with non-profit organizations whose mission is to make veterans homes more comfortable and more affordable. Together they complete projects like:
- Building a wheel chair ramp and renovating the bathroom in a disabled veteran's home
- Creating new landscaping for outdoor spaces and concrete patios for wheelchair accessibility at a temporary home for the families of hospitalized veterans
- Patching drywall and painting the bedrooms of an affordable apartment for a formerly homeless veteran and her family
- Replacing the floor in the kitchen and dining room at a housing shelter for homeless veterans
- Installing a wheelchair accessible shower in a project led by aveteran-volunteer leader
