HEALTHY COMMUNITY TREES

American Forests
American Forests is the nation's oldest nonprofit citizens' conservation
organization and a world leader in planting trees for environmental
restoration, a pioneer in the science and practice of urban forestry, and a
primary communicator of the benefits of trees and forests. American Forests
is a leading proponent of community-based forestry in the United States,
providing workshops; publications and other resources to help people in
communities use their resources in exciting new ways.
The Home Depot Foundation is providing support for the Katrina ReLeaf Fund.
In 2005 Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast destroying much of the
area¹s urban and rural tree canopy. The Katrina ReLeaf Fund, will provide
grants to communities to replant trees whose shade and other benefits are
vital to restoring livability. An advisory committee with representatives
from Gulf state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and donors
will aid the Fund and set priorities for distribution of resources. For
