AFFORDABLE HOUSING BUILT RESPONSIBLY

U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
The U.S. Green Building Council was created in 1993 as a national nonprofit to promote the adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies, and standards through market-based solutions. Overall, its goal is to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. The US Green Building Council has developed the LEED® Green Building Rating System, which is the nationally accepted standard for green buildings. The LEED Rating System™ is the nationally accepted rating system for green building. The LEED Rating System provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. It emphasizes state of art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
The Home Depot Foundation is providing USGBC grant support for its LEED for Homes Initiative, which will include standards applicable for affordable housing production. The Foundation also supports USGBC green building training programs and it provided funding for the development of a new affordable housing training session at the annual Greenbuild Conference and International EXPO.
