Caroline Counihan
Manager, Communications & Community Affairs

Caroline has been with The Home Depot since January 2006 and moved into her current position with The Home Depot Foundation in July 2007. As manager of communications and community affairs, Caroline is responsible for spearheading Foundation and Corporate community affairs communications; managing external communication strategies with national nonprofit partners; and supporting the Foundation and Company’s philanthropic goals within the Atlanta market.  In her role, Caroline led the development of a new communications platform and brand image for the Foundation, which included overhauling internal and external organization messaging and Web site re-design.  In addition, Caroline manages The Home Depot’s Nonprofit Board Development Program.

In her previous role at The Home Depot, Caroline served as public relations specialist supporting brand/sponsorship, marketing/merchandise and community affairs function areas.  She developed and managed public relations programs that aligned with the company’s strategic direction including the Racing to Play program with NASCAR, The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP program with the NFL and The Home Depot’s Olympic Job Opportunities Program in conjunction with the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.

Prior to joining The Home Depot, Caroline worked for several years at GCI Group in Atlanta where she managed the development and implementation of public relations programs for healthcare/pharmaceutical and travel/tourism clients, including InterContinental Hotels Group, Savannah College of Art and Design, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, McKesson Information Solutions and Carvel Corporations.

Caroline spent six months in her native Gaborone, Botswana as public relations manager developing campaigns for clients such as Cresta Hospitality Hotels & Lodges, GearV Adventures, Bolux Grain and Milling, Sugar Industries and Lobatse Clay Works.
