  153RD STREET AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

Harlem Congregation for Community Improvement, Inc. (HCCI), in partnership with Jonathan Rose Companies (JRCo), developed a model green affordable housing project in New York City to increase the availability of quality housing that families and individuals can afford.

The Affordable Housing Built Responsibly grant from The Home Depot Foundation directly supported the implementation of two innovative green technologies – a GreenGrid green roofing system and a rainwater harvesting system. The green roofing system contributes to reduced energy costs, reduced urban “heat island” effect, sound insulation, longer roof life, aesthetics and stormwater management. These two systems directly help the Project owners, residents and gardeners by reducing energy and water expenses and providing quality outdoor gathering and recreational space.
