TEAM DEPOT SUCCESS STORIES

We’re proud to celebrate many of the accomplishments of our associates. Here are a few of their amazing success stories!

If you’ve done a KaBOOM! build, you know what it feels like to move a mountain.

The mulch pile is a major part of any KaBOOM! project, and by our estimates, Team Depot has hauled, tarp by tarp, more than 2,000 tractor-trailer loads in the past three years.

SSC associate Don Stolzoff has seen quite a bit of engineered wood fiber during his time as a Team Depot captain, enough to win him the title of “Mulch King.” Don, senior developer, IT – Finance, wrapped up his 10th playground project at the aptly named Victory Park build, where 415 KaBOOM! veterans and first-timers alike joined forces.

Don says it’s still hard to believe we built 1,000 playgrounds in 1,000 days.

“I’m amazed at all the places we’ve put playgrounds,” Don said. “It’s great to look at the map and see all the places where we’ve created not just a playground, but a community meeting place.”

That sense of community also was a big draw for Team Depot veteran Willie Wilkerson, who has worked on a whopping 36 playgrounds. Willie, a Hardware associate at Store 130 in Atlanta, says KaBOOM! is a natural extension of his love for leading Kids Workshops.

“It’s a passion and a gift – I love to teach, and I love to see the little kids and the looks on their faces when they see what we’ve built,” Willie said. “The best part is the people. That’s what it’s all about.”

KaBOOM! veterans often spread their playground passion to family and friends. Don’s daughter, a U.S. Army captain, has helped build several playgrounds along the Gulf Coast area.

Newbies at the Victory Park build said they caught the KaBOOM! bug, too. “It was simply amazing to see the transformation in the short time span of one day,” said Marsha Jackson, general expeditor for Store 1749 in Austell, Ga., which supplied many of the materials for the build. Twelve associates from Store 1749 pitched in and had a great experience.

“It was our first time [volunteering for KaBOOM!], but it will definitely not be our last,” Marsha said. “We had fun, but hauling that mulch really gave us a workout.”
